COHR will be exploring – Wurundjeri Week (7 – 13 August) is a time to recognise, remember and celebrate the Traditional Owners of the land we live on: the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people.
The Wurundjeri People take their name from the Woiwurrung language. The word Wurundjeri is the combination of the Woiwurrung words ‘wurun’ meaning the Manna Gum (Eucalyptus viminalis) which is common along “Birrarung” (Yarra River), and ‘djeri’, the grub which is found in or near the tree.
Wurundjeri are known as the ‘Manna Gum people’. Wurundjeri are the ‘Witchetty Grub People’ and our Ancestors have lived on this land for millennia.
